New York Fashion Week may be winding down, but the glam factor was certainly skyrocketing on Wednesday. That tends to happen to whenever a new Marchesa gown makes its first appearance on the runway.
Nobody does red carpet glam quite like Keren Craig and Georgina Chapman, the dynamic designer duo behind the Marchesa brand. If I were an Academy Award nominated actress, it would be almost impossible to decide which gown from this collection I’d be wearing to this year’s show. But I’ve narrowed it down to these three. Now let’s wait a week and see if one of these takes the stage (and the award!) at the Oscars.
Derek Lam gets me. I’ve never met the designer, but anybody who knows me could glance at my three favorite looks below and make the statement, “yeah, that’s totally something you’d wear.” Lately I’ve become obsessed with statement coats, so this royal blue (almost purple) number with the large appliqués may find a home in my coat closet come fall. And that cream sweater with the oversized studded sleeves is versatile enough to wear with jeans, leggings or a pencil skirt.
Adds all three items to Pinterest Board and Wish List.
Every Thom Browne show has a theatrical, Cirque du Soleil element to it. This year, models strutted (skated?) down the runway in hybrid platform ice-skates to go along with his polar vortex themed set. The theme was further established with icy gray suiting and separates, winter argyle prints, and coats dripping with beaded embellishments that looked like icicles.
Again, my obsession with statement coats. To quote my favorite line from the movie Jaws: “I think I’m gonna need a bigger coat (closet).”
