What I Wore (and Did!) In Vegas

Las-VegasLast week, the manfriend and I headed to Vegas to celebrate our 11th wedding anniversary (and to see Jimmy Buffett at the MGM Grand.)

When planning my wardrobe for any trip, I have one basic rule: everything has to fit into my carry-on. My go-to (and favorite) color is black, so I packed a lot of it! And since it’s Vegas, I threw in plenty of sequins, bling, and animal prints.

So while what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, my outfits don’t have to. Here’s what I wore (and a little bit of what I did!) in Sin City!

WHAT I WORE ON THE PLANE

LOCATION: The SLS Hotel & Casino – This place is so ridiculously hip and cool. The decor is ultra-modern and these dual mirrors in our room were made for outfit selfies.

It’s a long, very long flight from NYC to Las Vegas. There are two things that happen when you land that make you know for certain you’ve arrived in Sin City. One, you hear the sound of the slot machines in the airport as soon as you you walk off the plane, and two, you notice a significant temperature increase because, well, you’re in the desert.

I am one of those people that always gets cold on an airplane, so I wore this leopard print trench coat by Alfani knowing that I certainly wouldn’t need it again until the flight back. And since it’s Vegas, the wearing of sequins was required, so I managed to fit them in with a black sequin sleeveless tunic. The jeans are 7 For All Mankindnecklace by Kenneth Jay Lane, carry-on by Samsonite, and that’s the new Secret Agent bag from Diane von Furstenberg.

VEGAS TIP: We originally had dinner reservations at Cleo. However, our flight was delayed and we got in too late, so we ended up ordering room service around midnight from The Northside Cafe which is located in the SLS hotel. The grilled cheese with roasted tomato basil soup is to die for. Order it!

WHAT I WORE TO SEE JIMMY BUFFET AT THE MGM GRAND

Okay, I’m a HUGE Jimmy Buffett fan, and seeing him at the MGM Grand is the main reason we came to Vegas. I chose this black jumpsuit (that I purchased on Poshmark) and these flat sandals because I wanted to be comfortable and enjoy myself. I knew I would be having a few (ahem) margaritas, and I didn’t want to get a TUI (teetering under the influence) after the concert. The gold owl ring is by Rachel Roy. And since my DVF Secret Agent Bag has the cutest little removable envelope clutch bag on the front, I took it a step further and turned it into a crossbody bag simply by hooking the two ends of the detachable shoulder strap together and folding the top flap over the loop, then fastening the clutch. Worked like a charm and I was hands free to hold all those boat drinks!

VEGAS TIP: The Monorail is the easiest way to travel up and down the Las Vegas strip. There is a station right at the SLS Hotel and it goes all the way to the MGM, which came in pretty handy for the night of the Jimmy Buffett concert!

WHAT I WORE TO THE HOUSE OF BLUES

On our last night in Vegas, we went to see The Wallflowers at The House of Blues. The manfriend and I unintentionally ended up matching with our jeans and black top combos. My gold grommeted asymmetrical vest is from New York & Company. Again, comfort was key when it came to the shoes, so I wore these chunky heeled ankle boots that gave me a little height.

VEGAS TIP: The House of Blues is located in The Shoppes at Mandalay Place, which is connected to the Luxor Hotel. Prior to the show, we had the most AMAZING meal at Rice & Company. If you go (and you should!), order the vegetarian lettuce wraps. They’re not actually on the menu, but the chef will make them for you. And they are probably the best thing I ate the whole time I was in Vegas.

WHAT I WORE SIGHTSEEING

We spent one entire day walking from one end of the strip to the other. My FitBit was very happy. And believe it or not, so were my feet, since I wore my flat sandals again. The dress from Express is also super comfortable. My only regret with this outfit is that we ended up going to the Titanic Exhibit at the Luxor, and we had some fun photos made (see a photo gallery below of some of our adventures.) I was totally wishing I had worn a maxi-dress to make our Titanic staircase photo a little more “formal.”

VEGAS TIP: The Titanic Exhibit at the Luxor hotel features a huge portion of the actual ship. You can also touch a replica of an iceberg that is the exact temperature of the water the night the Titanic sank. It’s an amazing exhibit and you can’t help but be overwhelmed with emotion while viewing some of the artifacts and hearing the personal stories of some of the passengers.

What I Wore to Sleep In

Okay, I know it’s a bit strange that the most colorful outfit I brought to Vegas was worn to sleep in. I’ve had these Victoria’s Secret satin pajamas for years and I take them with me whenever I travel. They’re just fancy enough to answer the door for room service every morning and they kind of match my view of the Las Vegas strip!

VEGAS TIP: A lot of the hotels in Vegas offer free shuttle service to and from the airport. We hired a car service for our arrival, but used the shuttle from the SLS when we left. Had I known that earlier, it would have saved me about $70 in car far and tip!

The one thing to know if you are planning a trip to Vegas is that anything goes when it comes to fashion. I saw women in the middle of the day wearing full sequin mini-dresses and sky-high stilettos. The key to your #UltimateVegasOutfit is wearing whatever makes you feel most confident while also being comfortable enough to enjoy everything that Sin City has to offer. Vegas is Disneyland for adults, so you want to come away with memories of how much fun you had – not how bad your feet hurt!
