My Carrie Bradshaw Inspired Bedroom Makeover

I have always been obsessed with Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment makeover in the first Sex & The City movie. I decided to redecorate my guest bedroom in this color scheme, so I started by creating a Pinterest board for inspiration.

Through a little research, I learned the paint used to decorate the Sex & The City set was a custom mix, but that Benjamin Moore’s “Electric Blue” was the closest match.

Prior to this makeover, I had painted one wall in the guest bedroom bright orange in order to bring out the colors of my favorite Basquiat painting. Now the blue seems much more complementary.

For the photo collage wall, I simply framed some of my favorite black & white photos of New York City. A few of these photos were taken by my brother-in-law who passed away a few years ago, so they hold very special meaning for me.

The lighting fixture replaced an old outdated ceiling fan. Interestingly enough, I found this beautiful fixture at Lowe’s for $40 and it’s called the “Sydney.” How appropriate.

For the closet, I wanted to create a space where guests could not only hang up their clothes, but also have a place for a laptop or tablet. I used four corkboards I already had and decorated them with vintage Warhol postcards and art.

This whole remodel only cost me two gallons of Benjamin Moore paint and the $40 light fixture. Everything else in the room is recycled, repainted and re-purposed.

Now my guest room is complete. So if Carrie Bradshaw ever finds her way over the George Washington Bridge and into the Hudson Valley, she’ll feel right at home.
